WHAT’S A WEB SOLUTION?

A web solution consists of a web/application server, database, and can be scaled to support better performance based on traffic increase. This would include adding load balancers to improve traffic performance. A web solution can be very costly if not implemented correctly. Rebnetik has cloud specialists that are very good at getting high performance without breaking your bank. Our web solution packages include a dedicated server, load balancer and a distribution point for global content delivery management. (CDN) This is a solution that provides great scalability for your website and the growth of your business.

The web server that serves your website can be on-premise, cloud, or a hybrid of both. A load balancer will also be needed to distribute traffic to the various web servers. The web server can be used as the compute host for your application as well. The web server will host your website and application. Depending on the software and workload of the website, a dedicated server may be needed. The web server will also need a database to store data. Depending on the size of your website and volume of traffic, a dedicated database server may be needed.

Web Server

The benefit of a web solution is that it can be accessed anywhere. It’s normally a cloud based solution, Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas)

The downside of a web-based solution is that it may not be as efficient as installing software on your computer. Additionally, a web-based solution requires a little more complexity than just clicking on install. You will have to access this software through a web browser or command line client such as SSH.

When considering Cloud vs On-premise solutions, keep in mind that many Cloud-based solutions have the option to install software on the server used to run your website.  So this is definitely saving some time on implementation.

Application (CMS)

A web application can be built on top of a server with a operating system.  Some of the common applications installed are content management system (CMS). The most popular CMSs today are WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. The ultimate decision will be based on your organization’s needs and requirements. It is important to choose the right CMS for your business. A CMS allows you to create new web pages with ease, but it is not the only consideration. You must look at the features that the CMS offers and how it can be used to solve your business problems.

Additional

We would also need to consider the software requirements needed to run this solution. Application, middle-ware, and database software can all be hosted on the same server, or in some cases, a different server. We would also need to consider how to scale this solution if we get above our expected traffic numbers. In most cases, we would add another server to host the application, and use a load balancer to help distribute traffic between these two servers. In some cases, you can use software to load balance the application across multiple servers.

SUMMARY

So in short order, a web solution is considered more  than a web server. It’s multiple components that have been briefly discussed which allows your web server or site the capability scale. The web solutions are normally not found using shared hosting solutions. Vendors like GoDaddy, WordPress, and others normally provide shared hosting web products which don’t scale.  If you are looking to grow your existing web product or looking for a new scalable web solution, I encourage you to reach out to the Rebnetik Team to discuss your current or upcoming requirements.
